elbow tag
July 18     762 up, 550 down
When in a theater with shared armrests, the act of carefully adjusting one's posture so that your arm touches the arm of the person next to you, but not so much that they move their arm away.

Jenna was pretty sure Mark still believed in cooties, so she got all giddy during their Ice Age 3 date when she "won" a game of elbow tag.

Land of the Lost was so painful, I had to amuse myself by playing elbow tag with the stranger on my left.>>>

The elbow is the region surrounding the elbow-joint[1]—the ginglymus or hinge joint in the middle of the arm. Three bones form the elbow joint: the humerus of the upper arm, and the paired radius and ulna of the forearm.[2]
The bony prominence at the very tip of the elbow is the olecranon process of the ulna, and the inner aspect of the elbow is called the antecubital fossa.

tag (1)
"small hanging piece," 1402, perhaps from a Scand. source (cf. Norw. tagg "point, prong," Swed. tagg "prickle, thorn") cognate with tack (1). Meaning "label" is first recorded 1835; sense of "automobile license plate" is recorded from 1935, originally underworld slang. Meaning "an epithet, popular designation" is recorded from 1961, hence slang verb meaning "to write graffiti in public places" (1990). The verb meaning "to furnish with a tag" is from 1436. To tag along is first recorded 1900.
tag (2)
"children's game," 1738, perhaps a variation of Scot. tig "touch, tap" (1721), probably an alteration of M.E. tek "touch, tap" (see tick (2)). The verb in the baseball sense is recorded from 1907; the adj. in the pro wrestling sense is recorded from 1955.

A tag cloud or word cloud (or weighted list in visual design) is a visual depiction of user-generated tags, or simply the word content of a site, used typically to describe the content of web sites. Tags are usually single words and are typically listed alphabetically, and the importance of a tag is shown with font size or color.[1] Thus both finding a tag by alphabet and by popularity is possible. The tags are usually hyperlinks that lead to a collection of items that are associated with a tag.

"Tag" has so many meanings, doesn't it? I'd like to personalize the definitions you have found. We used to play that game of "tag" as children, that means trying to catch the other children in the game who are running away, and if you caught them they would be "it". One variation of "tag" was "freezetag", where the person who is caught has to freeze while the person who is "it" tries to "freeze" everyone. Very hard work, and in retrospect rather chilling as a game objective. It was also a little boring for those waiting for everyone to to be caught, so those who had been "frozen" often broke the rules and ran away. At school we hat the anarchic "boys catch girls" and "girls catch boys" which was far more realistic ;)

Then there's the price tag, that "small hanging piece" or also small label that is slapped onto objects. Strangely enough it doesn't always represent the true value of the thing, does it? I guess that proves that markets work, but money is most certainly not the only currency we have.

Which brings me to social tagging. I'm still not using them well. I think you really need to understand taxonomies to be a good producer of tags. And yet people tell me you need to use as many as possible. As I say, this eludes me.

Have a good day!

thx Anne for your comment... Take note social tagging does not need taxonomy expertise... 2.0 makes things change in good so quickly: have a look to folksonomy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folksonomy ... SO... start tagging, keep cool... le "Dieu" 2.0 reconnaƮtra les siens...
